DJ Sbu has been given temporary marching orders after the public radio broadcaster found him to have deliberately disobeyed instructions not to promote any brand besides the sponsors at the Metro FM Awards.
DJ Sbu Leope brazenly took his energy drink, Mofaya on stage and while presenting an award, held it up at camera length to ensure it received free marketing.
According to Sunday World, Leope did this knowing fully well that coverage of such events nets millions for the SABC and is especially reserved for official sponsors. All presenters at the Metro FM awards were sent an email by SABC bosses, specifically telling them not to wear branded clothing or paraphernalia while on stage.
Leope was served with his suspension on Saturday, when he showed up for his 3 pm radio show. He was told that his suspension notice was effective immediately and denied entry into the Metro FM studio booth.
Leope is also being investigated for ignoring calls to collect his suspension letter from his bosses.
